Strawberry shortcake

Start to finish: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tablespoons baking powder
  • 6 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 quart strawberries

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400°.

In a mixing bowl, blend flour, baking powder and sugar. Make a well in the middle of the bowl. Add milk, egg and shortening. Stir well but don't over-mix; the batter should have lumps. Form batter into discs and arrange on a greased baking pan. Bake for 10 minutes or until light brown. Cool on a wire rack.

Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, mash the strawberries. Add sugar to taste.
